Architecture in Crisis Studio
2024/25 Location - University of Buffalo, NY, USA
Creating the next generation of humanitarian designers.
For two decades we have had the privilege of bringing humanitarian design to university students from around the world. It began at Montana State University in 2005 and every few years has moved to other universities in the United States and Europe.
We work on active projects in the field and teach through an empathy driven design thinking process, focusing on impact and community engagement. Running in parallel with these projects is a series of lectures that document the history of humanitarian design and showcases designers and projects that have made a positive impact in communities in extreme need.
This traveling studio is led by designer Cameron Sinclair and has evolved from years of his workshops, seminar courses, studios and lectures developed with graduate schools of architecture, interior design, planning and design. For 2024-2025 we are located at the University of Buffalo and have worked on disaster response in North Carolina [flooding] and California [wildfires], amputee football facilities in Ukraine and a floating telehealth center in the Kwajalein Atoll on the Marshall Islands.
Studios - Montana State, USC, University of Minnesota, UIC - Barcelona, Parsons (NY) and University of Buffalo.
